Donβt Blame the Prompt:
The un-automatable parts of product Management
AI by itself wonβt make you a successful Product Manager. AI is a multiplier, but it multiplies zero if you lack foundational product craft.
The artifacts are table stakes now. Double down on these core crafts instead:
-
Anyone can ask AI to write user requirements for a feature or design a solution.
You need the skills to figure out whether this is a real problem worth solving, question core assumptions, and determine what not to build.
-
AI can make recommendations, but a human will make the decision.
You need the skills to tell a story of the tradeoffs within a proposal that aligns with the multitude of variables of company strategy, department goals, product strategy, and more. Plus, your story must resonate with the preferences and mind state of the decision-makers in the room.
-
AI may know many details about your organization, but it will not understand the non-verbal and relational dynamics between the humans within it.
You need to develop the skills to perceive invisible alignment gaps before they manifest as delays and roadblocks.
